Nov. 8, 1991 was the release date for Strictly Business, which I co-wrote for my first produced screenplay. It was also Halle Berry’s first starring role and the soundtrack contained Mary J. Blige’s first single. So, for a rookie, I was it very good company. I have tons of memories about the development, production and reception of the film. Didn’t get paid much, but learned a whole lot. Twenty years and counting.

Hollywood is questioning the Academy’s controversial decision to felicitate Oprah Winfrey with an honorary Oscar, despite her spending the lion’s share of her career in television.
I have to admit, when I first heard the news that the film academy was giving Oprah Winfrey an honorary Oscar I questioned their decision, too. There are other actors more deserving of this honor — Angela Bassett, Cicely Tyson, Halle Berry, Ruby Dee and others.
